Al Eierdam, (Former Jet & Rocket Car World Record Holder) is BACK!!! "Retirement is for other people " says Al Eierdam, driver of this 300 mph Jet Dragster. Al, a respected and successful Insurance man in Phoenix, Arizona. has decided that after an 8 year retirement the time has come to return to the sport he loves.
After attending a few races during 1998, as a spectator, Al decided the Exhibition Cars have turned into just other RACE CARS and the Show-Business that Al enjoyed giving his fans over the years has been lost. Just as significant, Al, being the showman and always the one eager to entertain decided that the time has come to return to the Touring Jet Car ranks.
Past exploits have all focused upon Al’s 30 + years as a touring professional Drag Racer. Al has raced everything from Super Stock, to Top Fuel in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Then in the mid 70’s Al became involved in Jet Car racing with his usual "full speed ahead" attitude, soon becoming a very popular driver and showman. He traveled the U.S, Canada, and Mexico performing exhibitions at an average of 65 events per year. Al’s fans were always excited and loyal when he returned annually to Drag Strips across the nation. Al never disappointed his fans and would always take the time to meet and talk to everyone that he met, whether it be in the Pits or the Fast Food restaurant while traveling. In each case, Al would make sure he would give his fans an autograph or an encouraging word. Al spends a considerable part of his time visiting elementary schools and meeting with school children while displaying his "INVADER" Jet Dragster.
Additional exploits came when Al teamed with "Slamming Sammy Miller" during the 1980’s and toured Europe driving the "Vanishing Point" rocket-powered funny car. Al and Sammy performed the "Worlds Fastest and Quickest Drag Race" between two Rocket cars. Al and Sammy ran together at over 350 mph with ET’s in the 4.0 second range Side by Side in front of over 50,000 screaming fans at Santa Pod Raceway in England.
